“Bring him here! We will confront him face-to-face! We must find out whether he is truly a descendant of a hero.”

Xuanyue spread open his palm. Resting in it was a dark-blue command token, its mysterious patterns gleaming brightly. It was an extraordinary sight.

Nine such tokens had been forged in total. Famous master engravers had carved them from Hidden Immortal Rock, a material unique to the Wudang Sect, and inscribed them with the Wudang seal. Their intricate patterns were unmistakably the work of painstaking craftsmanship.

More than a thousand years ago, the Magic Stones descended upon the world. No technology or power could withstand them. They ravaged the earth, and the flames of war tore everything apart, as though earthquakes had struck and heaven and earth were collapsing. At that time, nine heroes stepped forward.

With the swords, blades, spears, and countless other weapons in their hands, they flew into the sky and shattered the Magic Stones one after another.

Meteorites fell from the edge of the heavens like shooting stars streaking across the sky. The people on Wudang Mountain suddenly felt as though the light had vanished. A dark shadow grew larger and larger, the wind howled with increasing force, and an inexplicable pressure bore down upon their chests.

Filled with bewilderment, they raised their heads and saw a gigantic meteor hurtling toward them. Their faces instantly paled with terror, and they scattered in all directions like drowned rats.

Their Patriarch rose to the occasion and flew into the sky. His sword blade glowed crimson as he shattered the descending meteorites. Yet far too many continued to fall. Even a being as powerful as their Patriarch would eventually exhaust his strength.

When the Patriarch struck a Magic Stone, sparks erupted, but the stone did not break. Instead, it slammed into his chest. Blood burst from his mouth, and the Magic Stone carried his body toward Wudang Mountain.

Just as the Patriarch was about to resign himself to death, someone descended from the heavens, wreathed in fire and radiating a terrifying killing aura. Man and sword became one. A sword beam invisible to the naked eye struck the Magic Stone, which immediately began collapsing from its center like a bursting balloon. Countless fragments exploded outward, and in the blink of an eye, that person rescued the Patriarch.

After that, the Patriarch followed the senior expert on journeys throughout the world. Together, they “killed” countless Magic Stones and even members of the Demon Race, saving innumerable people.

That expert had eight companions, all bound to him by a friendship forged through life and death. In gratitude for their bond, he gave each of them one of the nine tokens, telling them that whenever they encountered trouble, they could come to Wudang Mountain for assistance. So long as it lay within the Wudang Sect’s power, they would help them.

Those nine people were all tremendously powerful, even stronger than the Patriarch himself. There were naturally many things they could accomplish, so the tokens were passed down to their descendants. From then on, the Wudang tokens were scattered throughout the world.

Hidden Immortal Rock was exceedingly rare, and the engraver had long since grown old. No one could ever carve such tokens again, which made counterfeiting them utterly impossible.

Much later, Moshan was brought to the Palace of Supreme Harmony.

His face was still deathly pale, though he had recovered considerably since first awakening. As he looked into the great hall, the first person he saw was Elder Qian, the peak master of the Heart-Nourishing Hall. Xuanyue, the master of the Punishment Hall, was there as well.

He did not recognize the other twenty-odd people. However, he had heard the distinctive voice of the Sect Master seated at the center. When he looked over, he found the man’s expression cold and severe.

He probably is not going to treat me kindly, Moshan thought.

“First, I would like to thank your academy for saving my life. But may I ask why the Sect Master summoned me here?” Moshan asked shakily, keeping his voice low.

“Do you know what crime you have committed?”

Seeing that the boy dared to remain neither humble nor deferential in his presence, the Sect Master immediately flew into a rage.

“This junior does not know. Please enlighten me, Sect Master. I was pursued here against my will. Only then did I remember the token given to me by my elder. I had no time to think, so I came straight up the mountain.”

Moshan’s expression changed. He did not know what crime he had committed, and his body trembled. With his left arm gone, he looked utterly miserable.

“That token was given to you by an elder?”

The Sect Master’s expression softened slightly.

“Yes.”

“Then who is this elder of yours?”

The Sect Master was suspicious. If Moshan’s elder had not accompanied him personally, could he already be dead? And if his elder was dead, how had Moshan survived?

“My elder is Canghai,” Moshan said calmly.

In any case, the only people who currently knew his true identity were the members of the Lin family. Now that they had all vanished without a trace, who else could possibly know?

“Canghai!”

The hall instantly erupted into an uproar, as though everyone had just heard an astonishing name.

“Senior Canghai?”

“He is the greatest expert in the martial world today. This boy is actually his descendant?”

“He is a descendant of that hero?”

“No wonder his bearing is so refined!”

Moshan froze. As the people in the hall whispered among themselves, he was secretly astonished. So Canghai was truly that powerful. No wonder that python had been utterly helpless in his hands.

“Silence!”

The Sect Master was equally stunned. He had never expected Senior Canghai to be a descendant of a hero. No wonder he was so powerful, so dignified, and so immaculate.

“Then do you know what happened in the town?” the Sect Master asked.

“When I arrived, everyone in the town was already dead. Their blood had been drained. I went inside to investigate and saw Lin Kuang from Gene Sequence killing Aunt Mei of the Lin family.”

When Moshan recalled the state of the town, a shudder of fear ran through him. Who could have been so cruel as to kill them all and drain their blood?

“Are you saying that Lin Kuang killed everyone in the town?” the Sect Master asked in shock.

“Yes.”

Moshan was filled with resentment toward the person who had taken Ruoxi away and severed his arm. He voiced his suspicions, hoping to shift everyone’s attention toward Lin Kuang.

“Impossible!”

The Sect Master’s expression changed. He rose from his seat, and his entire aura erupted like a great mountain, pressing Moshan directly to the ground.

“You had only just arrived. How could you possibly know who Aunt Mei was?”

The Sect Master’s voice was filled with suspicion. It seemed that if Moshan said even one wrong word, the man would slaughter him on the spot.

“When I arrived, I heard a commotion and went to the Lin residence. I happened to see Lin Kuang strike Aunt Mei with his sword and— and cut her in half. He also tried to take Ruoxi away. I wanted to rescue her, but Lin Kuang severed my left arm before I could do anything. I hurried up the mountain immediately afterward.”

Moshan spoke haltingly. Under the Sect Master’s oppressive aura, even breathing had become difficult.

“That cannot be right, Sect Master,” Xuanyue of the Punishment Hall said in shock. “Gene Sequence is also an organization of the state. They conduct human experiments, nothing more. No matter how bold Lin Kuang may be, he could never have slaughtered everyone in the town and drained their blood. What they want is the genetic chain within the human body, so they can induce mutations. If they killed everyone, what purpose would that serve?”

“Exactly.”

At that moment, Elder Qian, master of the Heart-Nourishing Hall, also offered his opinion—something he rarely did. Everyone’s eyes turned toward Moshan, filled with suspicion.

“Could it be that you are lying to us?” Elder Qian asked suspiciously.

“I was only making a guess. When I arrived, everyone in the town was already dead. I saw only Lin Kuang kill Aunt Mei and take Ruoxi away. I know nothing else!”

Moshan was about to get up, but when he saw the unfriendly looks in everyone’s eyes, he hurriedly explained.
