Chapter Fifty-One: The Death Elevator
It was only a kick born of anger, sending Dr. Haoyang flying out of the elevator. It wouldn't kill him, so what was the harm?
He watched the elevator ascending, a strange, sinister smile playing on his lips.
"Lou Xiaofan! Are you alright?"
"People are just hot-tempered these days, don't take it to heart!"
Seeing Lou Xiaofan sitting on the floor, coughing violently, the people around him immediately stepped forward, full of concern.
"I'm fine..."
Lou Xiaofan smiled, his eyes filled with melancholy, and stood up with the help of those around him.
If it weren't for the warnings from Dr. Haoyang and Dr. Zhenhua, you would have already been shaken to death by the earthquake or crushed by falling debris!
Yet, here you are, ungrateful.
Living is a waste of air!
Dying is a waste of land!
Such a person truly has no right to exist in this world.
Lou Xiaofan cursed viciously, though he knew it was futile and only added to his own frustration. He clenched his fists; he would simply have to settle the score another time.
"We’re almost out! Isn't everyone happy?"
The previous incident was only a brief interruption. Feeling the thrill of the elevator’s ascent, they erupted into joyful cheers.
"We are!"
They shouted in unison. If they weren't packed into the cramped elevator, they would have jumped for joy!
"We’re finally getting out!"

Lou Xiaofan stood alone in the elevator. Despite the words of excitement, his tone was icy.
"Thump! Thump!... Bang!"
As the crowd cheered, a strange, rhythmic banging suddenly echoed through the noisy elevator.
They stopped cheering, eyes filled with confusion, looking around in every direction.
Yet, the sensation of ascent continued steadily, without the slightest hesitation.
"Maybe it's just rubble from the earthquake hitting the elevator shaft!" one said, his voice trembling with uncertainty.
"I told you! There's a tomb down here. We must have disturbed them, and now they've come to claim our lives!"
The thumping echoed in his mind, and he could bear it no longer, crying out in a tremor.
"What time do you think it is to be joking? We're three hundred meters underground. If there were a tomb, the construction crew would have detected it long ago! There is no ancient tomb down here! Can’t you trust a titanium alloy elevator? What kind of monster could break through that?"
"Not even the chimpanzees deep in the Kilimanjaro mountains could tear through this!"
The tall man roared, attempting to use his volume to suppress their frightened, deer-like hearts.
They immediately shrank back, startled. After all, he was even more robust than Han Zhiyu.
They stopped clamoring, peering left and right, trying to figure out what kind of bizarre phenomenon this was.
"Whoosh! Whoosh!"
"What's happening? Why is it swaying?"

One of them shouted.
The elevator had begun to sway, rocking back and forth like a swing.
The group tumbled from side to side, like a cluster of roly-poly toys, pressed against one another, yet somehow managing not to fall to the floor.
"What in the hell is this thing?"
"Are we... going to fall?"
"Surely... not!"
"Ah!..."
As they spoke in disjointed gasps, a sudden "BANG!" rang out. The structure snapped, as if sliced clean through, splitting the elevator entirely in two.
Those in the middle felt the ground vanish beneath them. They were utterly stunned, flailing their arms upward, but grasping at nothing, they plummeted into the bottomless abyss.
"Mama! I don't want to die!"
Han Zhiyu, caught on the edge and nearly falling, began to wail and scream!
"Save me, Lou Xiaofan! We’re brothers!"
Even as he cried out, Han Zhiyu lunged, his desperate hands reaching toward Lou Xiaofan.
"Heh!" As luck would have it—or perhaps not—he had been pushed to the very edge of the elevator, where a gap had formed, and he was clinging to it for dear life.
The memory of being throttled by him, the feeling of being dragged to the gates of hell, was still fresh in his mind, and now he wanted me to save him? The shameless nerve of the man!
"Go to hell!"
