Muttering, "Could Ouyang really be on the verge of bankruptcy?" she looked at Ouyang with an expression full of pity, thinking how unfortunate he was.
Hui shot him a disdainful glance and said, "Do you think Ouyang's companies exist just for decoration?" Then she gazed at Xia Ai as if she were looking at an idiot.
Xia Ai felt indignant at being provoked. She retorted, "Maybe Ouyang was born with a poker face, so we have no idea what he's thinking. For all we know, his heart could be aching and bleeding right now!" She spoke so convincingly that everyone couldn't help but cast sympathetic glances at Ouyang Xianyu.
Yet the man himself seemed utterly unconcerned, letting Xia Ai say whatever she pleased. It was as if he wasn't the one who would be paying in the end. He showed no interest whatsoever in what the others thought.
At this moment, Ouyang Xianyu's eyes were fixed solely on Xiao. Watching every smile and frown, he felt like the happiest man in the world.
That feeling of his heart racing—he hadn't experienced it in a long time. He pressed a hand to his chest, never taking his gaze from Xiao. To everyone else, it appeared he was mourning the loss of his money.
They all agreed Ouyang was pitiful—he'd encountered someone like Xiao, who spent money without restraint. Their sympathy for him rose another level.
Meanwhile, Xiao, busy picking out dresses, had no idea that, in the others' minds, she had already become a notorious villain. She selected a few more pieces and signaled for the attendant to bring them into the fitting room.
Now she needed to see if these clothes suited her. After the attendant placed everything inside, Xiao entered to try them on.
Soon, the fitting room door opened. Xiao stepped out in a pure white short skirt trimmed with violet, and everything around her seemed to fade into insignificance.
It was as if, between heaven and earth, only she radiated light. Xiao emerged, intending to ask for everyone’s opinion, but found them all wide-eyed, as if their souls had wandered.
Xiao frowned slightly, wondering: Is it really that ugly?
Xianyu was the first to snap back to reality. He walked to her side and remarked admiringly, "It's beautiful."
Even his perpetually indifferent expression had begun to crack. Xiao stared at Xianyu in disbelief, thinking he must be possessed today.
Otherwise, how could he say such things? Yet seeing that he wasn’t joking, Xiao boasted, "Don’t get lost in my charm and unable to escape, haha." She laughed gleefully.
Seeing Xiao’s smile—her first since their reunion without anger—Xianyu felt his heart swell, enveloped in happiness.
He thought today was truly worth it. With a slight curl of his lips, he instantly dazzled countless onlookers.
He looked at Xiao seriously. "Would you like to try dating me?"
This time, Xiao was stunned. She stared at him wide-eyed, hardly able to believe what she’d heard.
Was this guy serious? Dating? "Are you running a fever?" she asked, reaching out to touch his forehead. Hmm, his temperature was normal. So what was that just now?
Was he playing a prank? Xiao angrily pushed Xianyu aside, glared at him, and added, "You’re crazy!" With those words, she strode back toward the fitting room without looking back.
Her decisive action left Xianyu, confessing his feelings for the first time, rather wounded. He stared gloomily at the fitting-room door, that single barrier now separating him from her.
It was no wonder those ensnared by love were so sensitive and sorrowful—so much heartache, so much pain.
