Kevin to Han
Even her parents have never truly understood. Only Han himself knows the reason behind it all. Because he almost lost Xiao, he now cherishes her all the more.
Han gazed at Xiao as she slept, then carefully got out of bed. Gently, he lifted her from the covers and carried her back to her own room, so that in the rush of morning, she wouldn’t neglect herself in her haste.
After settling Xiao in her room, Han didn’t return to his own. Instead, he picked up his car keys and left the house. He drove to a bar, handed the keys to a valet at the entrance, and walked inside.
The bar was owned by Han’s closest friend. The moment Han entered, he spotted his friend sitting at the bar, chatting with someone.
Han was a striking presence, both in appearance and demeanor, drawing the attention of everyone in the establishment. The bar owner noticed the sudden shift in the room’s focus, turned around, and saw Han approaching.
Han walked straight over and took the seat beside him. “Good evening, Han,” his friend greeted. Han merely glanced at him and replied, “Mm.”
At this hour, the bar was awash in neon and music. On the dance floor, women in provocative dresses swayed their hips, vying for attention. Even as they danced, their eyes darted about, sending flirtatious glances across the room.
The moment Han appeared, it seemed every woman in the place set their sights on him, flirting without restraint. But their efforts were in vain—he didn’t spare any of them a glance. Still, their enthusiasm was undiminished. Some shifted their attention elsewhere, while others stubbornly fixated on him, determined to win his notice.
Han, unaffected by the atmosphere, surveyed the scene with calm detachment. He picked up his glass, swirling the liquor within, but did not drink. His graceful, enigmatic manner sent the women into fits of excitement and squeals.
The bar owner watched as the crowd fawned over Han, but with him sitting nearby, no one dared approach. He could only smile helplessly, observing that Han’s charm had only grown in the time they’d been apart—so much so that even he found himself more and more captivated.
A trace of sadness flickered in his heart, but not wanting Han to notice, he lowered his head, collecting himself. When he looked up again, his face was composed, as though nothing had happened.
“You haven’t changed a bit. How have you been lately?” the bar owner asked, draping an arm over Han’s shoulders with a casual smile.
Han fixed him with an icy stare. After a moment, he coolly spoke: “Kevin.” Kevin was the bar owner’s name, and he was, in every respect, a true friend.
In truth, Kevin had always secretly loved Han. But Han was oblivious, and even if he knew, he would probably only distance himself.
Kevin’s feelings left a bitter taste, but he kept them locked away, never letting Han see. Sensing Han’s displeasure, he quietly withdrew his arm and tried to appear unconcerned, though his heart ached.
He pouted and said, “All right, all right, I’ll behave,” moving his hand away. Han ignored him, sipping his drink silently, his gaze fixed on the dance floor.
His focused expression once again made Kevin lose himself for a moment. Desperate to appear unfazed, Kevin said, “Xiao is back in the country, isn’t she?” As expected, Han’s hand paused briefly—he only ever responded to Kevin when it concerned his sister.
Kevin had discovered this once, when he visited Han at home. Han doted on his sister for no particular reason; only in her presence did he seem more human.
