Cold Girlfriend
“Hurry up and tell me!” Xiao watched as her brother regained his usual composure, seemingly unwilling to answer her question. Anxious, she pressed him further. “No, I don’t have anyone I like. But Xiao, can you tell me why you’re asking?” Shangguan Han replied calmly.
He wondered why Xiao would suddenly ask such a thing. Could it be that those women had gone behind his back and said something to her? Damn! He didn’t need to know exactly who it was, but whoever it was had better be ready to disappear!
“No reason! I’m just curious. But, brother, you’re twenty-two this year! Other people have already dated who knows how many girlfriends, but you haven’t made a move at all!” Xiao feigned a look of frustration.
In truth, she was almost bursting with joy inside. Not having a girlfriend was best—this meant Meng still had a great chance. “Alright, you! Stop thinking about all this nonsense. I’m full. I’m going back to my room first. You should rest early too, don’t be late again tomorrow.” With that, he turned away.
Out of Xiao’s sight, he let out a sigh of relief. Thankfully, Xiao hadn’t continued to pry. Lying to his beloved sister was exhausting! And if she ever found out, she would surely be disappointed. He would never let her down—she just needed to stay happy. Anyone who tried to hurt her would have to answer to him!
With these thoughts, Han’s resolve hardened. Xiao sat aside, watching her brother leave, and beamed with delight. After finishing the soup in her bowl, she went upstairs as well. As soon as she entered her room and closed the door, she grabbed her phone and quickly dialed Meng’s number.
Before long, the call connected. “Hello?”
“Hehe, Meng, I just got some great news! Do you want to know what it is?” Xiao said mysteriously.
“What? Don’t tell me you won a million in the lottery?” Meng asked curiously.
“Oh, come on! What kind of logic is that? Just a million? Do I look like I need that kind of money? Are you even from this planet? Did you just come back from Mars?” Xiao exploded, launching a barrage of mock insults at Meng, as if determined to send her back to the womb for a complete makeover.
“Sorry! So, will you tell me? Please?” Meng realized she’d hit one of Xiao’s nerves and quickly apologized, trying to appease her.
“Alright, I won’t argue with you. This is more important. Actually, while we were having dinner, I asked my brother if he had a girlfriend. Guess what he said?” Xiao eagerly shared the news she’d just learned.
“What did he say? Hurry up and tell me! Don’t keep me in suspense! My stomach can’t take it lately!” As soon as Meng heard it was about Han, she was instantly energized, buzzing with excitement.
“He said he doesn’t have anyone he likes. Which means he doesn’t have a girlfriend! That means you have a chance! Aren’t you happy?” Xiao said cheerfully, as if she could already see Meng and her brother together.
“Yeah, that’s true, but it doesn’t mean I really have a chance…” Who would have thought Meng would be so lacking in confidence? Xiao was nearly exasperated.
“Hey, can’t you show a little fighting spirit?” She took a deep breath and went on, “Think about it—your figure, your looks, and if that’s not enough, you come from a better family than most. Plus, you have me—your strong and powerful supporter! Why say things that defeat yourself and encourage others? Silly!”
Xiao admonished Meng over the phone. After hearing Xiao’s not-so-gentle encouragement, Meng finally mustered up a bit more confidence.
