Still, he pretended to be displeased, fixing him with a cold stare and putting on a full act. "So, tell me, how do you intend to make it up to me?" Seeing Ouyang Xianyi act this way, Feng Lan knew he had already let go of his anger.

He quickly draped an arm around his friend's shoulder, trying to appease him. "I'll treat you to dinner after school! And I'll even lend you my brand-new game discs to play with first! How about that?" This was the greatest compensation he could possibly offer.

One had to understand that he was parting with his most prized possessions! He had spent his entire month’s wages on those discs, and he hadn't even had the chance to play them himself yet! But there was no helping it—who told him to provoke his best friend? Besides, he always seemed to step on Ouyang Xianyi’s landmines. It was never intentional; it was just that Xianyi appeared so transparent, as if he had no secrets at all.

Everything about him was so easy to guess. Yet, his pure and simple nature was truly captivating. If only he were in better health, he would be absolutely perfect!

Returning to the matter at hand, he figured he deserved this expense for being so careless. Watching the pained look on Feng Lan’s face, Ouyang Xianyi felt a surge of satisfaction. He had finally hit a sore spot!

Feeling so refreshed, his steps became much lighter. However, he wouldn't actually let Feng Lan pay. He knew that after school every day, Feng Lan worked part-time at a bar to save up pocket money. It was said that he didn't want to ask his parents for money, so he worked very hard.

Ouyang Xianyi had only ever stood outside that bar to take a look; he had never actually gone inside. In truth, he was curious, but Feng Lan wouldn't allow it, claiming it was too noisy and might affect his health. He was deeply grateful for Feng Lan’s concern.

The two returned to their usual dynamic. As they entered the classroom, the girls in the class immediately swarmed them again. Ouyang Xianyi knitted his brows in frustration—could these girls not give it a rest for a moment?

Was there no end to this? Seeing his friend’s unhappy expression, Feng Lan quickly stepped forward to block the girls, who were as passionate as fire. If this kept up, Ouyang Xianyi might well be picked clean to the bone by these girls!

With Feng Lan’s help, Ouyang Xianyi managed to reach his seat safely. Without him, he probably would have had to wait until class started just to get there.

Ouyang Xianyi slumped into his chair and let out a long breath, resting his head on the desk. He was utterly exhausted. His body was already weaker than the average person's, and after impulsively kicking Feng Lan earlier and then being mobbed, his stamina was simply failing him. There was no choice; he had to close his eyes and rest for a while, otherwise, he wouldn't have the energy to sit through the lesson.

Although he already understood the material, he felt it was only right to listen out of respect for the teacher. Unable to help himself, he closed his eyes, and in no time at all, he was off to meet the god of dreams.

After dealing with the girls, who were as clingy as maltose, Feng Lan returned to his seat. Seeing Ouyang Xianyi fast asleep on the desk with a look of fatigue, he shook his head helplessly and took his own jacket out of his bag to cover him.

Ouyang Xianyi snuggled into the jacket, the warmth making him sleep even more soundly. Watching his friend’s sleeping face, Feng Lan felt a surge of resentment on his behalf.

Was it a case of heaven being jealous of talent? How could someone so outstanding have such a fragile constitution? He couldn't exercise, and even moving a little bit was such a struggle. Seeing him like this truly made one’s heart ache, yet he never told anyone anything.

Watching him always pretend to be strong, Feng Lan felt a genuine sense of care for his friend. Although he didn't come from a distinguished family, he hoped to do whatever small part he could for Ouyang Xianyi.

In the past, everyone had looked down on him for being poor and refused to be his friend, but Ouyang Xianyi, someone adored by everyone, had never once looked down on him. He had chosen to be his friend, and at the time, Feng Lan had been deeply grateful.

If not for him, he would never have had the capabilities he possessed today. Ouyang Xianyi had studied with him and helped him silently from the shadows, which was the only reason he was able to attend this school, receive a tuition waiver, and earn a scholarship. He owed it all to Ouyang Xianyi; without him, there would be no "him" today.
