Chapter 150: The Spy
Mi Chen held a thick stack of documents in his hands, turning the pages with fingers that would not stop trembling.
“This... Over the past twenty years, the International Special Prison has somehow lost so many inmates? What on earth have they been doing?!”
The hefty list contained the names of every prisoner who had escaped from the International Special Prison over the years. Such a massive number of disappearances had gone entirely unnoticed. Worse still, even the people from their country’s Special Administration Bureau...
“Don’t cry when you lose!” he snorted. His fists and feet flew in tandem, striking from both sides. His blows came one after another, swift and forceful, carrying the fierce rush of a tiger.
Chen Bo muttered a silent complaint. He was about to shake his head when he suddenly noticed the same strange sensation in the nerves around his neck.
“Big Brother Chu Yun, wait for me.” Elamu had not even had time to sit down and drink some water, but he had no choice except to follow Chu Yun outside.
Watching the eunuch scramble to his feet and run away, Li Shimin struggled to suppress the anger surging inside him. He had never liked that traitor in the first place, but he had not expected him to actually rebel. Was he trying to get himself killed? Li Shimin had not even decided to change the era name yet, and the man had already made his move. Could he not at least have waited until after the change?
Put that way, it was tantamount to saying that he had wanted to assassinate Ares—and that the assassination had already succeeded.
Shortly after leaving the place, Lin Chen walked several dozen meters outside with a cigarette between his lips, only to catch sight of a beautiful woman he recognized.
Ares and Toby’s prediction had indeed been correct. This perilous region, where all manner of ferocious beasts and hybrid species held sway and even regular armies gave it a wide berth, had become a sacred pilgrimage site in the hearts of countless people after Ares’s origins were revealed.
The two turned around and glanced back. Zhang Liang was now carrying some food as he slowly approached them.
Only then did Lin Chen realize what purpose the super bulletproof vest the Hungry Ghost had once given it was meant to serve.
Cheng Pu and Sun Ce were caught in the melee between the armies. At first, they did not realize that Han Dang had come to rescue them. Only after hearing that thunderous shout did they understand that reinforcements had arrived.
He discovered that all the teammates in the middle lane had slid from the bridge into the water, then circled around to the seventh lane and attacked the red team’s base.
Yu Zinuo froze, then shook her head scornfully. “Him? That evil demon, Huangfu Lei? He can barely wait to see me suffer, let alone help me! He was just taking advantage of me while I was down!”
With a sharp crack, Han Meng’s chest visibly caved inward, and he was sent flying backward.
The two sentences had been spoken in exactly the same tone, almost simultaneously, without the slightest time difference between them. Su Mu and Long Xueji were left standing there in a daze.
The man appeared to be in his forties. He had a thick beard, as though he had not shaved for several months. The reek of alcohol clung to him, and his shirt and trousers were plain and ordinary—indeed, rather dirty.
At that moment, a distinguished guest arrived at the main military tent in Wuguan. He was Jia Xu, sent by Zhao Qian to assist Ma Teng.
“It’s hard to imagine—the Tang Dynasty team was beaten seven to nothing. That is something rarely seen in the history of competition.” Autumn Wind nodded. “The right to choose the map for the next match goes to the Tang Dynasty team, doesn’t it?” the Deposed Emperor Man asked.
Zhao Qian was stunned when he heard this. Thinking it over carefully, he had to admit that Guo Jia’s words made sense. No matter whom he wanted to help, there was nothing he could do.
Liang Xing had his broadsword raised high above his head and could never have imagined that Lu Bu’s Fangtian Halberd would be so swift. Caught completely off guard, he was struck in the chest. A series of cracking sounds followed as his ribs broke.
“Not at all—not even a little. You and Master saved my life. I was thinking that the life of an old woman like me ought to be worth more than this, shouldn’t it?” Cheng’s mother said cheerfully.
He had only just wondered where the mutated creatures might have run off to when they suddenly appeared before him. Song Zheng was overjoyed.
Although the Mainland had once again been brought together by then, many people remained distracted. Coupled with the rift between them and Azure Nether City, they would probably be able to do little more than protect themselves in the coming war. Under such circumstances, the situation across the Mainland grew even more precarious.
