Chapter 20: Agumon S: Destruction Mode

A Beast examined the state of Agumon S: Burst Mode closely and found that its overall combat power had risen from 160 to 200. Its speed and strength had also greatly increased. Yet, contrary to this, its skill points were vanishing rapidly.

A Beast realized that it shouldn’t be called Agumon S: Burst Mode, but rather Agumon S: Destruction Mode. Judging by the rate at which its skill points were disappearing, it would likely be depleted within five seconds. At that point, its life points would vanish along with them. It seemed that, in less than half a minute—perhaps not even twenty seconds—this Agumon S would perish.

Now, however, there was an issue: how could Digimon Beast survive these twenty or thirty seconds? It was clear that, although Agumon S would die when time ran out, Digimon Beast would never be able to just wait for that moment. No, to be exact, among the ten Digimon present, at least half would be eliminated by Agumon S within these twenty or thirty seconds.

Even if half survived Agumon S and moved on to the next stage—the final boss, Agumon X—they would surely fail. After all, Agumon X’s strength far surpassed that of Agumon S in Destruction Mode.

A Beast turned to Omega Beast and said, “Stop hiding things. Surely you’ve got some backup plan. Otherwise, with the state your Digimon are in now, honestly, you’re in no shape to tackle this hidden dungeon.”

Omega Beast shook his head and replied, “What are you talking about? I don’t have any backup plan.”

A Beast spread his hands and said, “I don’t mind, but if Agumon S takes out my Digimon, do you think yours will escape its wrath? Of course, if you don’t care about clearing this hidden dungeon, I won’t mind either.”

“Take it.” Upon hearing this, Omega Beast’s expression shifted, but finally he reached into his cloak and produced a piece of purple crystal.

“A Lesser Speed Crystal. Not bad, not bad.” A Beast’s eyes lit up at the sight of the purple crystal, and without hesitation, he crushed it. As the crystal shattered, a stream of purple energy surged from the east and plunged straight into Digimon Beast’s body.

The Lesser Speed Crystal, available for purchase in the shop at the price of one gold coin, temporarily boosts the speed of a single rookie Digimon, but is ineffective for champion-level Digimon. It is a one-time use item.

In other words, using a Lesser Speed Crystal is akin to throwing a hundred dollars into the river—without even the satisfaction of hearing a splash. Even so-called wealthy players would hesitate to spend so freely.

Moreover, because the crystal is purple, some players jokingly refer to it as “Energy Purple.”

Regardless, with the boost from the Lesser Speed Crystal, Digimon Beast’s speed increased significantly.

Although there had been a gap between Agumon S entering Destruction Mode and Omega Beast producing the crystal, during which Digimon Beast endured Agumon S’s relentless attacks, Digimon Beast’s own strength was not insignificant. Thus, he managed to withstand the onslaught.

After roughly twenty-three seconds, Agumon S stood still, let out a mournful roar, and ultimately dissolved into data, vanishing completely.

They had survived. More accurately, Digimon Beast had survived. As he was the focus of Agumon S’s hatred, as long as Digimon Beast did not die, Agumon S would not attack anyone else.

At this moment, the armor on Digimon Beast was riddled with cracks, some so large they had split open.

A Beast looked at Omega Beast and asked, “Hey, do you have anything for recovery?”

Omega Beast gritted his teeth and said, “Can I say no?”

A Beast shrugged indifferently. “Unless you have a Digimon willing to take my place and face the boss head-on, I don’t mind.”

“Fine, fine, here you go.” Omega Beast, resigned, retrieved a red crystal and handed it over.

“As expected, you’ve also bought a Lesser Life Crystal,” A Beast laughed, accepting the crystal and crushing it immediately.

The Lesser Life Crystal, like the Lesser Speed Crystal, is consumable and sold in shops for one gold coin. Unlike the speed crystal, the life crystal can be used by champion-level Digimon as well.

It restores a fixed amount of health—about fifty percent of the life points of a rookie Digimon whose combat power is one hundred. Champion-level Digimon can use it too, though the amount restored is somewhat meager.

A Beast checked his Digimon’s recovery and turned to Omega Beast. “Not enough. Give me another. By the way, if you have any magic crystals, those would be best.”

Omega Beast’s brows furrowed, a hint of anger flickering across his face. Ultimately, considering the need to clear the hidden dungeon, he reluctantly produced three more crystals: one Lesser Life Crystal and two Lesser Mana Crystals.

As for the effect of the Lesser Mana Crystal, it was similar in value to the Lesser Life Crystal.

However, A Beast did not crush a second Lesser Life Crystal. While a single crystal wasn’t enough to fully restore his Digimon’s health, two would result in excess.

That is, one crystal would bring the health to eighty or ninety percent, and another would push it past one hundred percent. But the health bar only displays up to one hundred percent, so the surplus would be wasted.

Since this was not an urgent moment, A Beast simply set it aside. Omega Beast, seeing this, understood A Beast’s intentions but said nothing.

Afterwards, the group—ten players accompanied by ten Digimon—proceeded deeper into the dungeon. This time, they encountered no minor enemies along the way, traveling directly to the boss room.

Unfortunately, this boss was Number Three, not the final boss, Agumon X.
