Chapter 138: The Great Gura Beast
"Snap!" Instantly, the figure of MegaloGrowlmon, who had been charging to attack, came to a sudden halt. It was not that he lacked the will to continue, but simply because layers of ice shards had manifested across his body. He had been frozen.
Crystal Wingdramon watched this scene, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "You have lost."
"That is not necessarily true." As MegaloGrowlmon finished his sentence, the dual cannons on his chest suddenly converged with intense light. A moment later, a shockwave capable of disintegrating even atoms surged toward Crystal Wingdramon.
"Boom!" Under the force of the Atomic Blaster, even the freezing effects previously inflicted by Crystal Wingdramon were instantly dispelled. The attack barreled forward with ferocious speed.
At that moment, rings of blizzard winds manifested around Crystal Wingdramon, launching directly against MegaloGrowlmon's atomic shockwave.
The two attacks locked in mid-air, each surging with equal intensity as they stalemated.
"Boom!" The next instant, MegaloGrowlmon's atomic shockwave finally pierced through Crystal Wingdramon’s Frozen Dimension and struck him directly. A cloud of smoke erupted instantly.
Witnessing this, Iemon’s side wore expressions of delight, while the mood on Astamon’s side turned grim. Yet, because the outcome had not been finalized, they continued to watch the battlefield.
Until the very last moment of a battle, no one could truly know what might happen. Perhaps Crystal Wingdramon would manage a counter-kill?
"Astamon, do not lose heart. Until the final moment of battle, who can say what the result will be? Perhaps, at the very end, Crystal Wingdramon will still pull off a counter-kill," Iemon remarked to Astamon and his group. While it sounded like sympathy, a subtle nuance of mockery laced his words.
However, just as the words faded, a shift occurred on the battlefield.
Visible through the smoke, swirling vortices suddenly appeared. A moment later, the smoke dispersed as a violent blizzard erupted from within. MegaloGrowlmon’s face clouded with shock, a flicker of dread in his eyes. He instinctively tried to move, only to realize his feet were frozen to the ground.
Ultimately, MegaloGrowlmon could not escape. Struck by Crystal Wingdramon’s blizzard, his form was completely encased, turning him into a statue of ice.
Looking at Crystal Wingdramon, MegaloGrowlmon said with a complex expression, "I never imagined that even after taking my Atomic Blaster head-on, you would still be standing."
"No, the power of your attack was truly immense," Crystal Wingdramon replied, stepping into full view.
He had not escaped unscathed. The icy armor covering his body was shattered, with only a few fragments clinging to him. The flesh beneath was riddled with wounds, revealing the heavy price he had paid. Yet, regardless of the cost, he had survived.
"I must admit, you are truly strong. Given your prowess, you would have a high win rate against any of our side, excluding only Astamon and Qilinmon," Crystal Wingdramon said, walking slowly toward MegaloGrowlmon, his voice cold. "However, even a high win rate is not one hundred percent. Even if your combat power surpassed mine, you have ultimately fallen to me."
As he finished speaking, Crystal Wingdramon reached a point just before MegaloGrowlmon. He looked at him silently and said, "I respect you, so I will finish you with a single strike, sparing you any further pain."
Crystal Wingdramon then slashed at MegaloGrowlmon, leaving several deep claw marks on his body. One of those strikes shattered the binding apparatus on MegaloGrowlmon’s mouth.
"Die, MegaloGrowlmon." As Crystal Wingdramon raised his claw for the lethal blow, MegaloGrowlmon locked eyes with him, a look of terrifying, savage intensity in his gaze. He opened his mouth, and a torrent of dark red flames erupted directly at Crystal Wingdramon.
Because Crystal Wingdramon had intended to execute MegaloGrowlmon, he had left the head unsealed; otherwise, the outer layer of ice would have served as additional defensive armor.
Because MegaloGrowlmon had not utilized any abilities above the neck previously, Crystal Wingdramon had been caught off guard. In the next moment, his body was consumed by the flames, reduced to endless data, and dissipated.
Following this, the freezing influence Crystal Wingdramon had exerted vanished entirely. Yet, having broken free from the constraints, MegaloGrowlmon’s eyes burned with a primal, violent rage. His gaze shifted toward Astamon and the others, filled with a palpable killing intent.
"MegaloGrowlmon, return!" MegaloGrowlmon’s tamer shouted, forcibly recalling him into the Digivice.
The tamer knew well that while MegaloGrowlmon’s combat power increased significantly without the restraints—allowing him to unleash his flames—his sanity would gradually erode as the time without the device lengthened.
If he could not be retracted into the Digivice within that short window, there was a risk that even his own tamer would become a target.
Fortunately, Crystal Wingdramon had already been severely weakened, allowing him to be finished off by that single burst of flame. Had Crystal Wingdramon been able to hold out longer, even if MegaloGrowlmon had eventually won, he would have likely lost his mind.
At that time, the Digimon yet to engage in battle included: Astamon, Qilinmon, LoaderLeomon, Sukamon, Cho-Hakkaimon, Shaoshanmon, Groundramon, SaviorHackmon, Paildramon, MetalGreymon, Cyberdramon, Taomon, GrappLeomon, and MetalPhantomon.
