Chapter 126: A Knock at the Door
Time passed slowly. That evening, the female landlord and Black Snow came to visit Beast One once again, and had dinner with him.
“It certainly saves me some trouble that the two of you have gathered together.” Just then, a man in a black suit entered the hospital room.
The female landlord frowned as she looked at him, her expression turning cold. “Who are you?”
The man in black smiled faintly. “Who I am, beautiful, is none of your concern. My purpose is very simple: I only want those two. Leave, and I promise I will not touch you.”
The female landlord gave a cold snort. “Hmph. You had better leave at once, or I will call the police.”
“Devimon, stop wasting time talking to them. Take all three of them. We can see how the boss wants to deal with them afterward.” Another urging voice came from outside the door.
“Very well. I had not intended to make such a fuss.” The moment the man in black finished speaking, he strode inside on his own.
“You are asking for death.” The female landlord took out her phone with one hand, intending to call the police. But at that moment, the man in black produced a Digivice. Right before Beast One and the others, he transformed into Devimon. Then he reached out, seized the female landlord’s phone, and crushed it before the voice on the other end could speak.
“A... a Digimon? Why are there Digimon in the real world?” The female landlord stared at Devimon in terror and retreated several steps.
The female landlord could not exactly be called a Digimon enthusiast, but Digimon were extremely popular in this world. Even people who were not fans had at least heard of them, if they had never watched them. On the other side, Black Snow also backed away in fear when she saw Devimon. Then, as though she had thought of something, she suddenly grabbed Beast One by the arm, intending to take him with her.
“All right, calm down.” Beast One gently patted the back of Black Snow’s hand with one hand, then turned his gaze toward Devimon and said calmly, “He is a Champion-level Digimon. Wouldn’t dealing with the three of us be easy for him?”
Devimon pointed outside the window and chuckled. “You are rather clever, boy. In that case, come with us willingly. It will save us the trouble of using force.”
Outside the window, an airship had appeared at some point. Or rather, an Airshipmon had arrived.
“Let’s go.” Beast One calmly walked toward the Airshipmon. However, because the windowpane stood in his way, he could not reach it for the moment.
Pointing at the window, Beast One said, “By the way, are you sure you do not need to open a path for me?”
“Leave that to me.” At that moment, a voice came from outside the door. Then a burly man walked in. He produced a Digivice and transformed into Dragonmanmon.
Dragonmanmon went to the window and swung a fist at it, shattering the entire pane.
Devimon pointed straight toward the Airshipmon. “After you.”
Seeing this, Beast One said nothing more. He passed through the broken glass and entered the Airshipmon. As for the female landlord and Black Snow, with Devimon and Dragonmanmon watching them menacingly, they had no means of resisting and could only follow him inside.
Devimon and Dragonmanmon boarded afterward. Once everyone was aboard the Airshipmon, it set off at once and flew toward its destination.
Looking at Devimon and the others, Beast One asked calmly, “Since we have cooperated so readily, could you tell us why you came looking for us?”
Inside the Airshipmon, besides Beast One, Black Snow, the female landlord, Devimon, and Dragonmanmon, there was also a beautiful young woman wearing a pink short-sleeved shirt and denim shorts, casually playing with her phone. No matter how one looked at her, she did not seem to be on Beast One’s side. Instead, she appeared to belong to Devimon’s group.
Devimon spread his hands helplessly. “To be honest, we do not know either.”
Beast One looked at him skeptically. “You do not know? Then why did you come looking for us?”
Devimon sighed. “All right. Our boss wants the two of you to go meet him. As for why he wants you there, I have no idea. When all is said and done, our boss merely wants to see you.”
Beast One asked again, “Your boss? Is he a Digimon too?”
“Yes.” Devimon answered firmly. “And he is an Ultimate-level Digimon.”
The moment Devimon said this, the female landlord and Black Snow were so frightened that they could only tremble beside Beast One. Fortunately, Beast One remained calm enough to steady them. Otherwise, the two women might have completely lost control.
Just how powerful was an Ultimate-level Digimon? No one knew. But one thing was certain: they were far beyond anything the two women could possibly contend with. In fact, as could be seen in some Digimon anime, even an ordinary Mega-level Digimon already possessed the power to stand against the entire world. Some especially terrifying Mega-level Digimon were even capable of destroying the world.
If a Mega-level Digimon could reach such heights, then an Ultimate-level Digimon needed no further explanation. Even the weakest Ultimate-level Digimon possessed unimaginable strength. Even the weakest among them might still be more than ordinary humans could ever hope to withstand.
Devimon looked at Beast One in surprise. “By the way, you are remarkably calm.”
“What else can I do if I panic?” Beast One spread his hands—more accurately, he spread one hand, since the other was injured—and said helplessly, “I have no strength to rely on. Whatever you tell me to do, I can only do it. If I cooperate, perhaps I will still have a chance to live. If I refuse, I will only die. So I have a fairly clear idea of which choice to make.”
Devimon assured him, “To be honest, your cooperation has saved us quite a bit of trouble. Do not worry. As long as the boss does not intend to kill you, I can guarantee that you will both return in one piece.”
Beast One nodded with a smile. “In that case, thank you.”
No one knew what would happen when they arrived. But one thing was certain: for now, the two men’s words could only be taken as words. In the end, even if Devimon’s boss did not harm them, there was no guarantee that Devimon himself would not.
Time slipped by second after second as the Airshipmon flew leisurely into the distance.
