City of Sinister Mist (The Black Death) Chapter 141: Operation Failed
"So, they failed?" The news of the failed attack on Wu Hui and his group reached Smiling Face quickly. He was somewhat surprised. Theoretically, even if Wu Hui and his team were formidable enough to take down one Level 6 and two Level 5 entities, the eruption of the Black Fog should have been sufficient to incite infighting among those already pushed to the brink of exhaustion.
It shouldn't have ended like this, no matter how one looked at it.
It was already seven in the evening. Somehow, Gao Cheng and Liao Yuan were still holding on.
Meanwhile, Orb Weaver had already led her team into the Tribunal headquarters and begun reviewing the authentic records from before they were tampered with.
The situation was worse than he had anticipated, though that was to be expected. No plan ever proceeded without unforeseen circumstances; there was no such thing as smooth sailing forever.
This was precisely why Wu Hui had developed the habit of preparing contingency plans.
It seemed, however, that Smiling Face lacked such a good habit; his response to accidents was always improvised. Relying on his exceptional intellect and his decisive, ruthless nature, he had managed to make it this far.
After all, his resources were limited; he couldn't possibly station a massive force everywhere, and he had only kept one reserve team specifically for this purpose.
One Level 6, two Level 5s, plus the influence of the Black Fog—to deal with a few Level 3s and 4s, it should have been more than enough.
Consequently, Smiling Face had made very little preparation for this specific outcome.
Unless.
Unless he went there himself.
In a hotel not far from the safe house, where few people remained, Ren Yin dumped the body of a Level 4 operative. This fellow had been Smiling Face's scout, the very one who had just reported the battle situation to him.
Inside the room, Li Xiaojing was gradually regaining consciousness.
The first person she saw upon opening her eyes was her sister, wrapped in a blanket, holding a phone and taking pictures of her.
"Ahhhhh!" Li Xiaojing sprang up instantly to grab the phone, but Li Xiaoyue had already sent the photos to Wu Hui; there was no undoing it now.
The two didn't even bother to change clothes before they started wrestling on the bed.
In a one-on-one fight, Li Xiaoyue was clearly no match for her younger sister. When her sister had fought against Wu Hui, Li Xiaoyue hadn't even been qualified to participate. Any attempt to intervene would have resulted in her having to surrender within two moves.
However, she possessed a special mental-type ability, allowing her to recover much faster than her sister. That was why she had been recording and taking pictures on the side all along.
After finishing with her sister, Li Xiaojing recalled what had just happened and curled up in a corner, feeling somewhat shut off from the world. Wu Hui ignored the sisters' squabbling, changed his clothes, and headed out.
This place was no longer safe. Now that the sisters were awake
