Chapter 22: Killing the Chicken to Warn the Monkey
When Lin Huang pointed at him, Xue Jie’s face turned deathly pale. He had originally thought that since Zuo Qiu Kang had apologized and even offered a set of arms as compensation, the incident would be over. He never expected Lin Huang to simply brush aside Zuo Qiu Kang and come straight for him.
“Lin Huang, what are you after?” Xue Jie had no illusions about his chances against the Tyrant, especially with Lin Huang, an expert at ranged combat, watching from the side. If it came to a fight, he knew he’d be the one to suffer.
“What am I after?” Lin Huang narrowed his eyes at Xue Jie. “You were the one who first provoked me, and you were the one who attacked. Did you really think I’d let you off so easily?”
“Xue Jie, we were in the wrong this time. Just apologize. As for any compensation Lin Huang wants, we can discuss it—after all, we fought and now we know each other,” Zuo Qiu Kang said, not abandoning Xue Jie but turning to Lin Huang instead. “Brother Lin, I know you’re angry, and Xue Jie can be foul-mouthed. You have every right to be upset. Whatever compensation you want, just say the word!”
Lin Huang couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at Zuo Qiu Kang’s shrewdness. Everything he said and did was seamless—given time, he would surely become a remarkable figure. “Since you’ve spoken, I’ll give you this courtesy. I have only two demands: First, I want to hear a sincere apology from his own lips. Second, I want all the arms he has on him, and anything in his storage space that I find valuable.”
“Lin Huang, don’t go too far!” Xue Jie blustered, though his bravado was thin.
“Xue Jie, shut up!” Zuo Qiu Kang barked.
“Now I finally understand why your family doesn’t like you, Zuo Qiu Kang. You’re a damn coward! Not only do you refuse to help, you’re siding with an outsider. I have no use for a cousin like you!” Xue Jie spat.
At this, Zuo Qiu Kang’s face darkened, and Lin Huang finally understood why Zuo Qiu Kang hadn’t left earlier, but tried to help Xue Jie out of trouble.
“You’re a fool—I’m trying to save your skin!” Zuo Qiu Kang shot back, his temper flaring.
“I don’t need it. Get lost!” Xue Jie spat on the ground.
“Brother Lin, you can have all the Black Iron arms I carry, and pick anything you want from my storage space. I’ll take him away, and promise we won’t trouble you again,” Zuo Qiu Kang tried once more.
“Zuo Qiu, this has nothing to do with you now. This is between him and me. If you can’t bear to watch, just go,” Lin Huang refused him this time.
“Tyrant, do it.”
At Lin
