In the blink of an eye, another four days passed.

Inside the room, Xiao Mo wore a bitter expression. Although he had been working hard to hunt monsters with Lin Huang’s help these past few days, his score had risen only from last place to third from last.

In less than half an hour, the final rankings would be announced. He was still more than two thousand points behind the person in fourth from last, a gap he could never hope to close.

Lin Huang had gone out and exchanged some points with the staff for food. After seeing the vomit-like meals on the first day, he had never set foot in the cafeteria again. Xiao Mo had benefited from this as well and no longer had to fight with others for cafeteria food every day.

“Eat something.” Lin Huang handed him a boxed meal.

Xiao Mo took it, but did not eat. Instead, he set it aside.

“I’ll be executed tomorrow… I originally thought that after joining the Purple Crow, I’d definitely make something of myself. I never imagined I wouldn’t even be able to survive the rookie training camp…” Xiao Mo spoke as though he were talking to himself.

“Why did you want to join the Purple Crow in the first place? You’re only at the Bronze level. You could have joined the Hunter Association and first become a reserve hunter. Reserve hunters don’t receive many benefits, but you could still hunt monsters on your own and earn points little by little.” Lin Huang felt that Xiao Mo had made the entirely wrong choice.

“If I had the option, I would certainly have joined the Hunter Association. But I had no choice…” As he spoke, Xiao Mo removed his T-shirt, revealing an emaciated upper body. He pointed to the left side of his chest, where a ring of intricate black runes was etched into his skin. “Do you see this? Because of it, I had no choice but to join an organization like the Purple Crow.”

“A Sinblood descendant…” Lin Huang frowned slightly.

When the New Era had just begun, certain humanoid monsters abducted human women and used them as tools to satisfy their animalistic desires. Many of the women died, though some were rescued.

Many of those rescued women had already conceived children by the monsters. These children became known as Sinbloods. Most of the first-generation Sinbloods were killed by human powerhouses at birth. Only a small number survived after the Alliance government later changed its policies. Even so, they were marked with the Sinblood insignia, a mark that would be passed down from generation to generation. Their descendants, bearing that mark, were known as Sinblood descendants.

Although the Alliance government no longer hunted Sinblood descendants, all the Alliance government forces still refused to accept them, fearing that they would grow into monsters and once again endanger humanity.

Xiao Mo truly had no other choice if he wanted to become stronger. He could only turn to the forces of darkness. Only they were willing to nurture him and allow him to continue growing stronger.

Lin Huang finally understood why Xiao Mo had always avoided the others whenever he went to bathe. He had been afraid that people would discover he was a Sinblood descendant. Now that he knew he would be executed the following morning, he had finally revealed his secret.

“Sinbloods were victims from the very beginning, and so are descendants like you…” Lin Huang sighed softly and patted Xiao Mo on the shoulder. “Eat something.”

The subject was too heavy, so Lin Huang simply opened his own meal box and began eating his dinner in silence.

Xiao Mo remained quiet for a while before opening his meal box and slowly eating as well.

It was nearly six in the evening when Xiao Mo finally finished his meal. After checking the time, he turned to Lin Huang. “Three minutes left… Thank you for taking care of me all this time. It’s a shame I borrowed so many life crystals from you and won’t be able to repay you…”

Lin Huang took the empty meal box from him and smiled. “Challenge me. Once I concede, you can take some of my points.”

“That won’t do. Deliberately conceding during a challenge violates the rules. Gong Sun Ying and the others will definitely cause trouble for you afterward.” Xiao Mo shook his head.

“Rules are made by people. If they can make them, I can break them.” The corners of Lin Huang’s lips lifted slightly. “If they want trouble, let them come. I happen to enjoy dealing with trouble.”

“Gong Sun Ying and the others are all Silver Rank 3, and they could break through to the Gold level at any moment. I know you’re powerful, but you can’t possibly be their match.” Xiao Mo continued shaking his head.

“I have someone backing me in the upper ranks of the Purple Crow. They won’t dare provoke me.” Left with no other choice, Lin Huang could only try to persuade him this way. “The person who sent me to this rookie training camp was a woman named Red Makeup. She’s an elite member of the Purple Crow. She agreed to come pick me up after three months. By then, I’ll directly become a reserve member of the Purple Crow.”

“I wasn’t planning to tell anyone about this, but you can issue the challenge now, right?” Lin Huang placed a hand on Xiao Mo’s shoulder.

“Really?” Xiao Mo’s eyes lit up.

“Of course it’s true. There isn’t much time left, so stop hesitating!” Lin Huang nodded.

Only then did Xiao Mo issue the challenge.

A challenge window appeared before Lin Huang.

Xiao Mo has challenged you. Do you accept?

“Accept!”

The moment the challenge window appeared, Lin Huang pressed the confirmation button.

As soon as the challenge countdown ended, Lin Huang immediately shouted, “I concede!”

The challenge system instantly declared Xiao Mo the victor.

A moment later, a notification appeared on Lin Huang’s side informing him that Xiao Mo had taken five thousand points from him.

“Couldn’t you have taken a little more? You could have raised your ranking further.” Lin Huang felt that the boy was cautious in everything he did.

“Five thousand is enough. The person ahead of me only has a little over two thousand more points than I do. Besides, if my score is too high, people will challenge me. With a lower score, many people won’t consider me worth challenging. That’s a good thing too.” Xiao Mo kept another reason to himself: he was afraid that taking too many points would cause Lin Huang to regret helping him.

What he did not know was that Lin Huang had never cared about the rankings in the first place.

Not long after their challenge ended and Xiao Mo’s ranking changed, the clock struck six.

A new public execution list was released, and Xiao Mo successfully escaped disaster.

The sudden increase of five thousand points in Xiao Mo’s score attracted the attention of some people. Before long, those who were interested had traced the source of the points. Lin Huang’s score had barely changed for nearly a week. Although his ranking had continued to fall, his score itself had remained almost the same, aside from the occasional few points spent exchanging for food. This time, however, it had dropped by a full five thousand points.

Many people immediately realized that Lin Huang had violated the challenge rules and deliberately lost to Xiao Mo.

The matter reached Gong Sun Ying and the others within minutes.

“Lin Huang! I warned you long ago not to disregard our rules! You refused to listen and insisted on courting death, so don’t blame me for showing you no mercy. Today, in front of these tens of thousands of people, I’ll execute you, you little brat who refuses to follow the rules!”

The moment Gong Sun Ying learned what had happened, he flew into a rage and charged straight for the courtyard below the dormitory building.

A few minutes later, he stood in the center of the courtyard and shouted toward the room where Lin Huang was staying.

“Lin Huang, get out here! I challenge you to a fight to the death!”
