Chapter 51: The Beautiful Young Lady
“Speaking of which, the names you and your sister have are quite interesting. One means to look forward to rain, the other to look forward to sunshine; truly peculiar,” Lu Feng remarked as he was smoothing Su Muyu’s meridians, making idle conversation.
“Do you want to know why my sister and I were given these names?” Su Muyu lay sprawled on the sofa, her chin resting on her arms, clearly eager to chat.
“I’m a little curious,” he admitted.
“Actually, when our mother gave birth to my sister and me, it happened to be during the height of summer. The weather was unbearably hot, and our family couldn’t afford air conditioning, so the heat was stifling. That day, both of our parents were hoping for rain to cool things down,” Su Muyu gazed out the window, lost in recollection as she spoke.
“Later, as if heaven had heard their prayers, it really did rain—a torrential downpour. Then, mother started having contractions; she was about to give birth. Father wanted to take her to the hospital, but the storm outside was so fierce they couldn’t leave, and couldn’t hail a car. At that moment, they wished the rain would stop and the sun would come out. So, after we were born, mother named me ‘Longing for Rain’ and my sister ‘Longing for Sunshine.’”
Lu Feng had been at the Su family home for quite some time, but had never met the twins’ mother. He guessed she was no longer living, so he didn’t pursue the subject further.
“All right, the meridian smoothing is done. Those eavesdropping outside the door may come in now,” Lu Feng withdrew his hand from Su Muyu’s back and called out loudly.
Su Muqing pushed open the door, walked over awkwardly to Su Muyu’s side, and shot Lu Feng a glare with her beautiful eyes. “Who was eavesdropping? I was supervising you to make sure you weren’t up to any mischief!”
“Whether it was mischief or something good, it’s all finished now,” Lu Feng shrugged.
“Hmph! Shameless scoundrel,” Su Muqing pouted.
“Qing, don’t be angry. Senior really did help me. The air has been so oppressive these days, especially before it rains—I’ve been feeling unwell. After he helped me, I felt much better,” Su Muyu took her sister’s hand.
“It’s just acupressure, I can do that too! Next time, let me help you, sis,” Su Muqing said with arrogant pride.
Lu Feng paid no mind to the sisters, settling himself on the sofa and picking up the remote to change channels.
“Hey! What are you still doing here?” Su Muqing looked ready to throw him out.
“Watching TV.”
“My sister and I want to watch dramas. What awful channel did you switch to? It’s just frogs—so boring,” Su Muqing complained.
Su Muyu disagreed, “I think it’s fascinating. These frogs are highly poisonous, but they can be used in medicine; they’re quite valuable.”
“Really?” Su Muqing asked, staring at the screen, unable to see how a bunch of garishly colored frogs could have medicinal value.
…
Yunan Wellness Pavilion, medicinal cuisine private room.
Su Dao’an, full of enthusiasm, dragged Lu Feng into the private room. There were no guests yet, but the waiter had started bringing out dishes.
“Old Su, what are you doing? I don’t even like the food here. You call it medicinal cuisine, but you add so many seasonings, it weakens the properties—doesn’t have much effect,” Lu Feng asked after Su Dao’an made him sit.
“If it doesn’t taste good, no one will come. But that’s not the point. Today’s guest is very important. Last time, you helped out Fang Huijuan with her rash; she recommended you. The guest is from a very influential family—you must meet them,” Su Dao’an explained.
“You can meet them yourself; I don’t do business,” Lu Feng said, puzzled.
“It’s not about business. I’ve heard that the elder of the Zhou family is ill, and they’re searching everywhere for renowned doctors. Isn’t our Yunshan’s mission to help the world? It’s your turn,” Su Dao’an continued.
“So it’s about treating an illness. In that case, I’ll see them,” Lu Feng nodded.
“It’s not that simple. You don’t understand the power the Zhou family holds. If you establish a good relationship with them, never mind the Lianhong Society, no one will dare touch a hair on your head.”
“I was never afraid of them.”
“Of course you’re not, but what about those around you? What if Lianhong Society troubles Xiaoyu or Xiaoqing, or comes after that little girl you rescued—what would you do? Can you guard them every day?” Su Dao’an persuaded.
Lu Feng nodded, “That’s true. I suppose this is what the old man meant by connections.”
Su Dao’an immediately gave him a thumbs-up, “You catch on quick. So when they arrive, make sure you impress them.”
“All right,” Lu Feng agreed.
A little more than ten minutes later, Fang Huijuan—the woman who had caused such a stir with her rash in Yun’an last time—arrived, bringing another guest.
Following Fang Huijuan was a woman, and a beautiful one at that, around twenty-four or twenty-five years old, impeccably dressed, with a cold, proud bearing, clearly a young lady from a powerful family.
“Let me introduce you. This is Miss Zhou Fuchu, eldest daughter of the Zhou family. Here is Chairman Su Dao’an, owner of Yun’an, and this is Yun’an’s most skilled physician, Lu Feng,” Fang Huijuan said, then teased Lu Feng, “Little brother, last time I invited you to dinner and you didn’t come; you left Sister Fang heartbroken for quite a while.”
“I was busy with work. Let’s call this meal my treat, to make it up to you,” Lu Feng replied, seizing the opportunity.
“Absolutely not, I’ll be treating today. Come, sit, everyone! I ordered the dishes yesterday, and that Buddha Jumps Over the Wall stew takes days to prepare, right? Chairman Su, you did remember, didn’t you?” Fang Huijuan greeted them warmly.
“How could I forget a dish ordered by Ms. Fang? Waiter, bring out the best from the kitchen,” Su Dao’an instructed, sending word to the staff.
Once the dishes were served and everyone had begun to eat, Zhou Fuchu glanced at Fang Huijuan, signaling her to get to the point.
As Su Dao’an had heard, Fang Huijuan indeed had connections in both the underworld and the business world, and her ability to introduce someone from the Zhou family showed her network was extensive. But seeing how attentive she was to Zhou Fuchu made it clear Zhou Fuchu’s family was of much higher status.
Fang Huijuan, ever the shrewd operator, caught Zhou Fuchu’s look and moved straight to the main topic, “Here’s the thing: I heard Miss Zhou is looking for a famous doctor, and immediately thought of you, little brother. Last time you said I’d lose thirty pounds in a month, I didn’t believe it, but after drinking your medicinal tea, I really did drop thirty pounds in a month. So when Miss Zhou mentioned she needed a renowned physician, I recommended you right away. Don’t let Sister Fang down.”
When Zhou Fuchu entered and heard Fang Huijuan introduce Lu Feng, she realized the famed doctor was him, but found it hard to believe—the man was so young, her interest waned.
As the saying goes, “If one’s lips are smooth, their actions aren’t trustworthy.” Especially in traditional medicine, which requires deep knowledge and experience; no one would associate a young man like Lu Feng with a famous physician.
