The assistant driving ahead was bewildered, thinking that Zhou Ci had taken a fancy to Gu Shen Shen. He never expected that, faced with danger, Zhou Ci would leave so decisively. Glancing toward Gu Shen Shen, the assistant noted that there weren’t many people in this area; if someone wanted to abduct her, it would be quite easy. The suspicious vehicle had already stopped by the roadside.

“Mr. Zhou, human traffickers have been rampant these past few years. Given Miss Gu’s current predicament, it’s inevitable that someone might have improper intentions toward her…” The assistant, kindhearted, wanted to help.

Zhou Ci, however, interrupted him coldly and mercilessly: “Drive.”

Gu Shen Shen reached the surveillance blind spot, which happened to be at a narrow street. Three burly men, their faces full of menace, approached her. Alarmed, she instinctively turned to leave, only to find two more men stepping in behind her.

“Miss Gu, we’ve had quite a time tracking you down. Our boss has always wanted to meet you in person,” the tall, lean man at the front said, his expression unfriendly.

Gu Shen Shen glanced around at her surroundings, then suddenly smiled.

“It’s all about money, isn’t it? Surely it’s not worth forcing someone into a situation like this.”

The men broke into wicked grins. “The boss is very fond of you. If you can win his favor, many of your troubles will be solved. Miss Gu, this deal is all gain, no loss…”

Her expression stiffened, but in a sudden move, she dashed toward the road.

The five men surged after her in unison.

But as soon as she reached the greenbelt, she stopped abruptly, spun around, and sprayed them fiercely in the eyes with pepper spray.

Instantly, the men clutched their faces, cursing angrily from the pain.

Gu Shen Shen dared not linger—she vaulted over the greenbelt, ran across the street, kicked off her heels, and sprinted out of the surveillance blind spot. By the time the men recovered, she was gone.

The car at the street corner had been parked for a long time. Seeing Gu Shen Shen running out, Zhou Ci glanced at his watch and let out a mocking, cold laugh.

Gu Shen Shen rushed over, pounding on the car window. The assistant wanted to unlock the door but waited for Zhou Ci’s order. After following Gu Shen Shen for so long, he knew Zhou Ci’s feelings toward her were either love or hate; at this moment, leaving was out of the question.

“Mr. Zhou, those men will come after her once they recover. Let her in,” the assistant urged.

Zhou Ci said nothing. After a moment’s consideration, the assistant unlocked the door.

Once Gu Shen Shen was inside, the assistant pressed the accelerator, and the car vanished swiftly into the night.

In the back seat, neither spoke. Gu Shen Shen gazed out the window, as if gathering her thoughts.

Soon, the assistant thoughtfully raised the privacy partition, sealing the two of them in their own world in the rear compartment.

Gu Shen Shen finally turned to the man beside her. “Watching me suffer—does it give you a thrill?”

He remained silent, prompting her to smile. “You’ve followed me all this way. It’s been two years, and you’re still so hung up on me?”

His gaze at last shifted to her. In the next moment, he pinned her in the corner.

Gu Shen Shen was startled, her lips twitching slightly. The look in Zhou Ci’s eyes chilled her to the bone.

She dared not move. This was no longer the boy she could toy with two years ago, the little wolfdog at her mercy.

“You think I lack for women?” Zhou Ci retorted with a cold laugh.

Gu Shen Shen smiled, lips curved in apparent gentleness and submission. “It’s my own delusion. Could you please let me off at the next corner, Mr. Zhou?”

A low, chilling laugh slipped from Zhou Ci, and he deftly slid his hand into her clothing.

Gu Shen Shen’s expression changed instantly; she grabbed his wrist. “What are you doing?”
