Chapter 25: Obedient
Zhou Ci responded indifferently, his gaze drifting back to Pei Wan lying on the bed, though his mind was occupied by Gu Shen Shen’s bewitching face.
“As long as she’s alright, I’ll be leaving. I drank too much tonight and I’m not feeling well.” Before he finished speaking, Zhou Ci had already strode toward the door.
Gu Shen Shen leaned against the wall, her eyes heavy with sleep, unable to keep them open. She shut her eyes for a brief rest.
When Zhou Ci exited the ward, he saw the woman leaning by the door, eyes closed. He watched her for a long moment before suddenly flicking her forehead.
Gu Shen Shen opened her eyes in pain. Had it not been Zhou Ci she saw, she might have let loose a string of curses.
“Mr. Zhou…”
“Let’s go.” Zhou Ci said.
Gu Shen Shen glanced behind him; no one followed. She let out a slight breath and hurried to keep pace with Zhou Ci.
She was so tired that even driving felt nearly impossible, barely managing to get Zhou Ci home.
“Mr. Zhou, I should be on my way now.” She stood at the doorway, unwilling to step further inside.
Her exhaustion was written all over her face. Zhou Ci glanced at his watch: “Tomorrow morning we’re meeting someone important in Shangcheng. Tonight, you’re not going anywhere.”
Gu Shen Shen’s eyes widened slightly in surprise. “What?”
“There are five hours left until eight in the morning—enough time to rest. Don’t let work suffer.” With that, Zhou Ci pulled her inside and closed the door.
He went straight to the bathroom.
Gu Shen Shen had no choice but to sit on the sofa. The couch was so soft that she fell asleep within seconds.
When Zhou Ci emerged from the bathroom, he found her sleeping soundly.
He stood at a distance, watching her weary face, not moving a step closer.
In the morning, Gu Shen Shen was awakened by her alarm.
Blinking sleepily, she realized she was lying in an unfamiliar bed.
She distinctly remembered falling asleep on the living room sofa the night before.
Then, she seemed to hear Zhou Ci’s voice and hurriedly got up, following the sound.
The master bedroom’s sitting area appeared before her; the man sat on the sofa in dark loungewear, holding a coffee and conducting a video meeting.
Only then did Gu Shen Shen realize she had spent the night in his master bedroom.
Her emotions grew complicated; she couldn’t help but wonder if his elaborate arrangements meant he still thought of her, or perhaps wished to rekindle what they once had.
“What’s the matter? Are you standing there waiting for me to be served?” The man’s cool voice interrupted her reverie.
Gu Shen Shen drew a shallow breath. “Who are we meeting today? I’ll arrange everything right away.”
“We’re going to Shangcheng for the Health City project. Zhou Yili went yesterday.” Zhou Ci’s tone was nearly icy, devoid of any emotion, as if merely stating a fact.
As his personal secretary, Gu Shen Shen had to constantly interpret every word and nuance.
“We can leave in half an hour.” She said, stepping toward the door.
Zhou Ci’s voice deepened as he watched her: “If you can’t handle those old men, have you thought about how you’ll punish yourself?”
Gu Shen Shen paused, immediately understanding that Zhou Ci had deliberately made the schedule so tight, giving her almost no time to prepare.
“Mr. Zhou, I’ll handle it. Even if Zhou Yili went early, it doesn’t mean he’ll see them.”
Zhou Ci observed her confident demeanor with a hint of curiosity. Aside from being good at drinking, what else could she do?
“If you can’t manage it, then you’ll obediently be mine, just as I once followed you.” His tone remained flat, without a trace of emotion.
