Chapter 13: That’s Why I Fear Him
“At this moment, Zhou Ci is at the hospital as well. I’ll head over soon, and you should go too.” Shen Qiqi didn’t even let her finish, already grasping her intent.
Gu Shen Shen still had a hotel to sell, in order to pay off her debts. She held shares in the Gu family company, as well as other corporations. The longer her debts lingered, the more precarious her situation would become.
“All right.”
Gu Shen Shen had never imagined what Jiang Ling would look like after being beaten, until she arrived at the hospital and saw him—his face so bruised and swollen that his features were barely recognizable. She was startled.
At that moment, Zhou Ci was in the ward, impeccably dressed, standing coldly like an outsider, remote and severe.
Instinctively, she glanced at Zhou Ci, her gaze complicated.
The warning in Zhou Ci’s eyes as he looked at Jiang Ling was unmistakable, and Jiang Ling did not dare meet his gaze.
It wasn’t that Zhou Ci was untouchable in Haicheng, but rather that his nature was truly unhinged. The fact that he had done this to Jiang Ling with his bare hands and Jiang Ling was too afraid to call the police spoke for itself.
Gu Shen Shen swallowed lightly, recalling how she had mouthed off to him last night. The memory sent chills down her spine. Had that urgent phone call not come through, would he have beaten her into the same state as Jiang Ling?
Shen Qiqi glanced at Gu Shen Shen and said, “You should leave now. Jiang Ling needs rest.”
Zhou Ci turned and walked out, and Gu Shen Shen hurried after him.
Zhou Ci carried himself like an outlaw, and Gu Shen Shen, trailing behind, felt a little nervous. It seemed as though, from the moment she appeared, he hadn’t spared her a single glance.
She caught up to him and grabbed his hand. “A Ci, I was too impulsive last night. There’s been so much going on lately, my mind hasn’t been clear. I hope you can understand.”
It was only when she took hold of him that Zhou Ci was forced to stop, but he quickly shook her off.
“I was wrong.” Gu Shen Shen, determined, seized his hand again, her words unusually sincere.
She stepped in front of him, raising her face to look at him. Her submission and humility were genuine.
If she couldn’t win, she certainly couldn’t confront him head-on; at the very least, she couldn’t worsen her own predicament or drag her family into it.
Zhou Ci looked down at her, regarding her low posture in silence.
“So, you’ve finally come around?”
Gu Shen Shen fought the urge to slap him, biting her lip hard.
“As long as you let Feng Shiyao go, take over my hotel, and settle my debts, I’ll let you decide my fate.” She hadn’t forgotten how ruthless she had been in the past.
She had indirectly caused his car accident; his hatred was justified. This debt would have to be repaid, sooner or later.
“There are plenty of younger, more obedient women than you. What makes you think I must accept your terms?”
Gu Shen Shen was so angry she couldn’t speak.
Seeing her silence, Zhou Ci walked right past her, leaving without a backward glance.
Shen Qiqi then came out and, seeing Gu Shen Shen standing there with a sour expression, walked over.
“Still haven’t gotten anywhere? After all, you did keep him as a boy toy before. Is he really so troublesome?” Shen Qiqi felt that with Gu Shen Shen’s skills, she shouldn’t be at a loss with Zhou Ci.
“It’s my fault—I owe him. It’s only natural his temper is so fierce.”
Shen Qiqi said, “Jiang Ling has two broken ribs, and he’s still too scared to call the police. Zhou Ci really is crazy. But that girl must be special to him; otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone so far.”
Gu Shen Shen sighed helplessly. “That’s why I’m afraid of him.”
