At this moment, Yao Qian had already forgotten that when her master gave her the Yi Wood Azure Dragon Scripture, he had told her to refine the Yin-Yang Lotus Seed into a second primordial spirit. In fact, the cultivation method she was practicing was different from the original Yi Wood Azure Dragon Scripture.

It wasn’t that Ji Lingxiao had too high expectations of her, but that the Heavenly Yan Stele held great hopes for her—something Yao Qian didn’t yet realize. After pondering for a while, she didn’t immediately practice the somewhat mysterious Azure Dragon Scripture. Instead, she read the other manuals her master had given her.

The follow-up techniques of the Asura Thorn showed no real improvements; clearly, the Heavenly Yan Stele had already perfected and extended its subsequent methods. The only progress was that she learned how to craft the God-Slaying Talisman, described in the miscellaneous chapters following the main techniques.

Thinking about the high price of the God-Slaying Talisman, her heart was stirred. Once she could refine talisman treasures herself, she would definitely make them instead of drawing talismans. The method for refining the second primordial spirit was similar to the Azure Dragon Scripture—it required a vessel for the second spirit. It seemed her master had given her this manual as a reference for comprehending the Azure Dragon Scripture.

The last manual was a body refining technique. Cultivators absorb the spiritual energy of heaven and earth through breathing, which inherently strengthens the body, so few actively practiced body refinement. Yao Qian quite liked the body refining technique her master had given her, though it wasn’t her preferred style.

This technique advanced the body by refining it with beast blood and medicinal herbs. Such body refining methods leveled up quickly and had few side effects. The only downside was the cost, which was unfriendly to one’s wallet. And at this stage, Yao Qian was most lacking money, especially since the Heavenly Yan Stele hadn’t even extended this manual.

She wasn’t sure if the manual was too rudimentary to warrant further development, or if it was essentially a rare encyclopedia of spirit plants and beast blood, not within the scope of the Heavenly Yan Stele’s extensions. She casually put the body refining manual aside and returned to pondering the Azure Dragon Scripture.

The Azure Dragon Breath was somewhat akin to innate purple breath. Since she could cultivate innate purple breath, she should be able to cultivate Azure Dragon Breath as well. She wondered if innate purple breath would enhance Azure Dragon Breath.

Calmly, Yao Qian began to practice the Azure Dragon Scripture. First, she had to inhale the energy of Yi Wood, then visualize the Azure Dragon, merging her spiritual consciousness into the Yi Wood energy, nurturing it constantly until the Azure Dragon Breath could form.

With the mindset that she had nothing better to do, she decided to give it a try. If it failed, so be it. At first, she felt nothing, but she wasn’t discouraged. After all, it had taken her two years to succeed with innate purple breath, and the Azure Dragon Scripture felt even harder. She planned to persist half an hour daily for five years, then give up if unsuccessful.

Yao Qian secluded herself in the secret chamber, while outside, the Yao family was busy preparing for relocation. The Elder asked Xue Niang, confirming that the mountain peak where Yao Qian stayed was her private property. As long as she was safe, the mountain peak would always belong to her.

Without hesitation, the Elder arranged for all thousands of Yao family members to relocate into the Infinite Sect. Beneath that mountain was a high-grade spiritual vein; even ordinary people living there could extend their lives by several years. A young couple living there might even have several children with spiritual roots.

When the Golden Cicada Lady arrived at the Yao family, the Elder was digging up the family’s bamboo emperor with several other elders. On the mountain where Xiao Jiu lived grew Golden Thunder Bamboo, which was of much higher grade than the Azure Spirit Bamboo. It was excellent material for forging magical tools and talisman treasures, though it took a long time to mature.

Azure Spirit Bamboo matures in ten years, but Golden Thunder Bamboo requires a thousand years. Azure Spirit Bamboo could only be used to make talisman paper or spirit charcoal, while Golden Thunder Bamboo could be forged into flying swords. The Elder believed Golden Thunder Bamboo could become a specialty of the Yao family, but long-term income still depended on Azure Spirit Bamboo.

She was packaging the last bamboo emperor into a sealing spirit box when she heard Golden Cicada Lady had arrived. She wasn’t surprised—she had anticipated the visit.

Golden Cicada Lady asked in surprise, “Are you planning to take everyone away?”

The Elder replied, “Our Yao family isn’t large, and this time we have Gold Core cultivators escorting us. I want to move everyone all at once.” Xue Niang wouldn’t escort them, but taking advantage of this opportunity to relocate together, the Elder didn’t believe anyone could stop them on the road.

Golden Cicada Lady looked at the vast bamboo forest on the mountain. “You’re just going to leave such a large family estate behind?” The thousand-year-old bamboo emperors would be taken, of course, but besides those were many hundred-year-old Azure Spirit Bamboos, which were also valuable assets.

The Elder smiled, “We have lived here peacefully thanks to the mountain's protection. We must leave something behind to bless future generations.”

If Xiao Jiu hadn’t returned, the Yao family would have moved to a mortal city, and the Elder might have taken all the valuable items from the mountain. But now that Xiao Jiu was back and had sworn allegiance to the Infinite Sect’s leader, the Elder did not want to make things ugly.

She spoke sincerely: mountains and land have spirits. The Yao family’s peaceful life in Green Bamboo Ridge was thanks to the mountain spirit’s blessing. Leaving, they must repay the mountain spirit somewhat.

Golden Cicada Lady looked at the Yao family with envy—what a great opportunity this was. She also wanted the Jin family to relocate into the Infinite Sect, but her own daughter, Xiu’er, was just an ordinary outer disciple, without such qualifications. Her ability to return home now was thanks to Yao family’s Xiao Jiu.

She said to the Elder, “Sister Yao, it’s also by chance that both our families have disciples admitted into the Infinite Sect. In the future, your Qianqian should be close to my Xiu’er.”

Without hesitation, the Elder replied, “Of course! Our families have been friends for generations; this bond will never break.” The Elder was worldly-wise and wouldn’t become arrogant just because her Xiao Jiu had gained power. Given the relationship between the Yao and Jin families, they were natural allies.

Golden Cicada Lady then took out a wooden box. “Sister Yao, this is a gift for Xiao Jiu.”

The Elder saw a lifelike golden cicada carved on the box and guessed its contents. She politely declined, “This is too precious; a child doesn’t need to accept such a valuable gift.”

Golden Cicada Lady smiled, “Our family has raised cicadas for generations. Such insects are neither rare nor common. Don’t be so formal with me. Xiao Jiu is so promising, it makes me happy. We wish the children peaceful lives; Xiu’er also has one of these cicadas.”

Hearing this, the Elder no longer refused. “I’ll call Xiao Jiu out.”

Golden Cicada Lady waved her hand, “Don’t bother the child with formalities. We’ll have plenty of chances to meet.” She was also going to the Infinite Sect with Xiu’er. Even if they couldn’t enter, they could at least visit the market.

The Elder said, “In that case, let’s set off together.” Since they were moving so many people, they couldn’t rely on Xue Niang. The Elder decided to have Xue Niang escort Yao Qian back to the sect, while she would follow behind with their clan.

The Elder went to find the secluded Yao Qian and handed her the cicada insect. “This is from Golden Cicada Lady.”

Yao Qian opened the wooden box to find a dead golden-winged cicada insect inside. She looked at the Elder, puzzled—why give her a dead insect?

“This is for you to use in future reconnaissance. The golden cicada insect’s body is as hard as iron, and this corpse has been specially refined by the Jin family’s secret methods. It’s like a zombie, but without consciousness. If you refine it with your essence blood, it’s like gaining a half-avatar. You can attach your shadow spirit to the corpse to spy on enemies.”

The Elder explained the function of the corpse, similar to refining a second primordial spirit but much simpler, and less helpful than a true second primordial spirit, which could act as an external avatar.

A real second primordial spirit has growth attributes; with time invested, its cultivation can match the owner’s. When the owner's body is injured, the primary spirit can transfer to the second primordial spirit, turning it into the main body.

But this insect corpse retains the cultivation it had before death, unable to advance further, and the primary spirit cannot transfer into it since it’s already dead. This was why the Elder accepted the corpse.

The gift was modest yet not insignificant; Xiao Jiu could repay the favor in the future. If Golden Cicada Lady had truly gifted a rare treasure capable of refining a second primordial spirit, the Elder would have refused without hesitation.

The Elder mentioned the second primordial spirit again, which suddenly made Yao Qian think of something. “Elder, if you refined a second primordial spirit now, would it extend your lifespan?” She recalled the Moon-Worshipping Toad Egg she possessed; the Moon-Worshipping Toad was a high-level demon beast, presumably with a long lifespan.

The Elder smiled, “To extend lifespan, you must refine a high-level demon beast into a second primordial spirit. Where would we get the skill to capture such beasts? Lifespan is fate; it cannot be forced. My talent is limited. Even if I force longevity, I may not live much longer. Xiao Jiu need not worry about me.”

Yao Qian said, “Elder, I have a Moon-Worshipping Toad Egg.”

The Elder was overjoyed. “Wonderful! Hurry and refine it. You’re still young; the Moon-Worshipping Toad Egg will be very useful to you.”

Yao Qian shook her head, “My master said the Moon-Worshipping Toad is low grade and told me not to refine it.” Suddenly, she remembered a Yin-Yang Lotus Seed her master had given her, which he said she should refine into a second primordial spirit before practicing the Azure Dragon Scripture. So, was her master’s version of the Azure Dragon Scripture different from hers?

Page 3/3

Yao Qian felt like kneeling before the Heavenly Yan Stele. If it continued extending the scriptures like this, all her cultivation techniques would differ from others’. She smiled bitterly, realizing she could only try her best. She had heard that most cultivators after the Nascent Soul stage didn’t strictly follow existing manuals but improved them based on their own foundation. Once she worked hard enough to reach Nascent Soul, she wouldn’t fear being found odd.

The Elder saw Xiao Jiu daydreaming partway through her words but didn’t interrupt, patiently waiting for Yao Qian to regain focus. Yao Qian’s gaze wandered and saw the Elder calmly drinking tea. She quickly took out the Moon-Worshipping Toad Egg and said, “Elder, please refine this quickly.”

She sincerely said, “I’m still young and need you to take care of me.” The only person Yao Qian truly trusted was the Elder, who would wholeheartedly support her for the family’s sake.

The Elder looked at Xiao Jiu with satisfaction. “I knew you were a good child.” Though still young, she already worried about the old folks.

The Elder took the toad egg and said, “I won’t refine it just yet. I want to attempt breaking through the Gold Core first. If I fail, I’ll refine it.”

She still wanted to leave this rare opportunity to the younger generation, feeling it a waste for her old bones to refine a second primordial spirit.

Yao Qian didn’t press further; she also hoped the Elder could break through the Gold Core. She thought about asking Xue Niang, a Gold Core cultivator, for her breakthrough experience.

Author’s Note: Today’s update is a bit late, but tomorrow’s will be on time at seven o’clock. I’ll try to write a bit more.

Today, I’ll share my vegetable preservation methods. Mine are simple and straightforward, mainly involving water absorption and freezing. Water absorption works for refrigerated vegetables like mushrooms and leafy greens, which release moisture in the fridge and spoil easily. I usually put these vegetables in storage boxes lined with several thick layers of kitchen paper.

Kitchen paper absorbs moisture, extending the shelf life of many vegetables by a few days, but no more than seven to ten days. For longer preservation, freezing is necessary.

I’ve tried freezing most vegetables: leafy greens, root vegetables, nightshades, cruciferous vegetables—almost all can be frozen. The key is to wash and cut vegetables before freezing.

Frozen vegetables shouldn’t be thawed; cook them directly from frozen. Thawing causes them to spoil. Some vegetables, like tomatoes, shouldn’t be cut before freezing—just wash and freeze whole.

Wash, dry, and cut vegetables, then lay them flat in silicone bags and freeze. Once frozen, they’re ready to use, which is very convenient. I mostly freeze vegetables for cooking convenience rather than preservation.

You can also preserve beans like soybeans, red beans, and chickpeas. These should be soaked and cooked before freezing. When needed, just take them out for cooking rice, porridge, or soup—very convenient.

One crucial tip: don’t freeze purple cabbage! Although nutritious, it stains other foods, ruining their color unless eaten alone. So eat purple cabbage quickly instead of freezing it.
